Some of Ms. Pierson's Favorite Books!

This is one of my all time favorites! I loved this story as a kid and still enjoy reading it with students! In my classroom I would like to use this for sequencing. Also a great way to implement some "if, then" statements and ideas. This is such a cute story and is engaging to kids to guess what is coming next. There are also some more books that go along with this one that I would like to read after this one if the students enjoyed it.

I remember reading this book when I was in school and thinking it was so funny! Kids love a story that is silly. In this story there are so many opportunities to use sequencing/cause and effect to retell the story. For younger students, I feel like this would be a great way to introduce these topics. There are a good bit of vocabulary words that I would introduce the students to that may be above their level. The difficulty level is kinda all over the place but I feel like all age groups would enjoy the read.

This is such a good read! Also, such a heartbreak. As an adult this book is still so engaging and emotional. I feel like kids would really enjoy reading this and connection with all the many aspects of it. One thing I would really like to connect is my students imagination. In the story, the kids are able to go out in the woods and entertain themselves for hours and be kids. I would like for my students to write a short story using their imagination. I feel like this could just be a fun writing task that they would enjoy. This can be creative and interesting, especially for older grades.

I absolutely loved reading these books as a kid! I remember reading them with my mom a lot. My favorite part is how she takes things so literal. I think this is something we as teachers need to pay attention to as we talk to students from different backgrounds. They may not always understand what we mean and we have to clarify our directions. I think my students would find this book humorous and interesting. I would like to see how the students interpret the directions by asking them to predict what Amelia Bedelia is going to do when she reads the list.
